Finance Expert shares potential European windfall ahead at Aston Villa

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist, he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Aston Villa.

Dan Plumley has shared the potential windfalls at play for Aston Villa next season if they qualify for Europe in the Premier League this weekend.

With the Europa League and Conference League spots still potentially up for grabs, Unai Emery will be desperate to pick up three points against Brighton.

The finance expert admitted that the Europa League is the best windfall option, with £20million at play if the Villans can win the tournament next season.

“To make it a real significant jump, you’ve got to go deep into the competition,” he exclusively told Villa News.

“The starting fees for the Europa League this season in terms of group stage participation is about £3.6million, and the Conference League is just under £3million.

So, you get win bonuses and things, but the fixed fee is relatively low and you need to top it up. If you could win the Europa League, you’re looking at around £20million, if you win the Conference League, you’re looking at £10million tops, but that is if you go deep into the competition.

If you are just in the group stages, you’re probably looking at an extra £5million, so it’s not insignificant, but you’ve got to go really deep to generate the best value from it.”

Emery has been the mastermind behind everything since his arrival.

The Spaniard has turned a season where relegation was likely, into one where Europe is very likely going into the final game, and he must be rewarded with a huge summer transfer window.

All eyes are on Villa Park.

In other Aston Villa news, the future of this loanee hangs in the balance as contract talks await.
