Tottenham keen to get Giovani Lo Celso 'off the books' as Aston Villa transfer news emerges - Ty Bracey

We’re delighted to welcome Aston Villa podcaster Ty Bracey as our exclusive Aston Villa columnist each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the club…

Aston Villa could be aided in their pursuit of Giovani Lo Celso this summer by the fact Spurs want to get the midfielder off the books, according to Ty Bracey.

Fabrizio Romano reported on Monday (15 May) that Aston Villa hold a concrete interest in signing the 27-year-old this summer, with both player and manager keen on the move taking place.

However, any decision on sanctioning a transfer will wait until a new coach has been installed at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Emery previously managed Lo Celso while he was on loan at Villarreal from Spurs, helping the midfielder rediscover his excellent form that saw the north London club splash out £27.2million on his permanent signature in 2020.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “It didn’t quite work out for him at Spurs and that’s why he ended up moving out, but I think Spurs need the money.

“They haven’t had the best season and I don’t think in their heads at the beginning of the season they would have seen themselves fighting for European football with Aston Villa and Brighton.

“I would love to see Lo Celso in a Villa shirt, and Emery gets the best out of everybody so if he wants him in, I’m absolutely on board.

“I think he’s a really good player and I would say Spurs will be keen to get him off their books, especially if they have no plans for him.

“Would you send a player on loan if you had plans for him? No, you wouldn’t.

He’s not a youngster, he’s someone who wants to play football every week, so I would take him all day.”

Emery has already looked to delve into the Spanish transfer marker since arriving at Villa Park, snapping up Alex Moreno from Villa Park in the January transfer window.

The club are also targeting a move for free agent Marco Asensio this summer, while Athletic Bilbao youngster Nico Williams remains on the radar after bidding for his services in the winter window to no avail.

In other Aston Villa news, Emery can contain Trent Alexander-Arnold with the switch of this duel-winning machine in the clash against Liverpool this weekend.
