Aston Villa transfer for Matteo Guendouzi a ‘no brainer’ despite ‘questionable moments’ at Arsenal – Ty Bracey
We’re delighted to welcome Aston Villa podcaster Ty Bracey as our exclusive Aston Villa columnist each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the club…
Ty Bracey believes £35million transfer target Matteo Guendouzi is a no-brainer for Aston Villa, with Unai Emery in need of midfield additions this summer.
According to Ligue 1 expert Jonathan Johnson [CaughtOffside, 11 May], after missing out on the 24-year-old in the January transfer window, Aston Villa are set to reignite their interest in the midfielder.
Emery previously worked with the midfielder during his time at Arsenal, but since leaving the Emirates Stadium his improvements have been stark, resulting in seven caps for the France international team.
Aston Villa currently have Boubacar Kamara, Douglas Luiz and Leander Dendoncker as options in central midfield, with John McGinn also capable of slotting into the middle of the park.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey admitted that Guendouzi’s “questionable moments” earlier in his career at Arsenal could be swept under the carpet, and Emery should look to complete the reunion this summer.
“I think he would be a great addition,” he said.
“He’s had a few questionable moments, but he was very young when those things happened and obviously Emery has worked with him before.
“It’s a no-brainer. Emery knows what he’s capable of.
“So if he’s a genuine target, which I do think he is, if January wasn’t the right time then I do think we will go in for him now.
“We need some numbers in the middle, so I’m definitely keen to get Guendouzi on the books. I think he would be a great addition.”
The Sun recently reported that Emery is set to be given a £200million war chest for the upcoming transfer window, with the potential arrival of Mateu Alemany likely to only further the club’s ambitions this summer.
Guendouzi is contracted at Marseille until 2025, but the French club will allow him to leave for a fee upwards of £35million.
