Ollie Watkins can inflict further pain on shaky Tottenham defence, Aston Villa ace has history v Spurs
Aston Villa ace Ollie Watkins has been handed the perfect fixture to bounce back from his recent goal drought when his club take on Tottenham on Saturday (13 May).
Both clubs have seen their European aspirations take a hit in recent weeks due to some indifferent results.
Just three points separate the two in the Premier League table, with Tottenham sitting sixth on 57 points and Villa sitting eighth on 54 points.
Despite slowing down on the goals front in recent weeks, Watkins has enjoyed a phenomenal campaign overall, with the striker netting 14 league goals.
But the 27-year-old has now failed to find the back of the net in his last four matches, with that drought highlighted due to his phenomenal run just before, when he scored 11 goals in 12 matches.
Fortunately for the forward, Tottenham are up next for Unai Emery’s side, with Watkins registering three goal contributions in his last four league matches against the North London outfit (two goals, one assist), as per Aston Villa Statto.
That run began with an away goal in the 2020/21 season, with the England ace repeating that feat the following season.
He then picked up an assist in the away fixture with Tottenham this season, with Villa leaving North London with all three points in a 2-0 win.
Watkins shone in both attack and defence in that New Year’s Day win, making a match-high three key passes as well as chipping in with two clearances, as per SofaScore.
It will be the former category that Emery and indeed Watkins will want to focus on against Tottenham this time around, with the striker set to be boosted by the fact that only five other clubs have conceded more goals than Tottenham’s 57 this season, according to the official Premier League website.
