NSWE to upset Aston Villa fans after latest boardroom decision – Finance Expert

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist, he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Aston Villa.

Dan Plumley has insisted that NSWE have run the risk of really upsetting fans at Aston Villa by increasing season ticket prices by 15% for next season.

Despite problems in the United Kingdom with the cost of living, numerous Premier League clubs have taken the decision to charge their loyal fans significantly more.

The finance expert admitted that clubs don’t need to do that with the revenue money they receive each year, and it will leave a “sour taste” for fans.

“It is a potential,” he exclusively told Villa News.

“You also have the wider investment into the ground and the infrastructure, and the amount of equity that the owners have put it.

Notwithstanding all of that, it’s a significant rise for fans at a time when everything is going up cost wise and it just leaves a bit of a sour taste in the mouth of the fans as well because they know with the TV money on offer in that league as well, they don’t necessarily have to do that.

You can kind of see where it is pitched and you can see what it links to wider with what the club are looking at, European football would be a huge boost to that as well, but obviously, you run the risk of upsetting fans along the way so you have to be mindful of the optics of that.”

Of course, there is now better football on show under Unai Emery and with the prospect of European football on top of that, it could be justified that it would be worth the money.

But, the argument could also include the fact that finishing higher up in the Premier League as well as qualifying for Europe increases price money significantly, meaning there is no need for a season ticket hike.

It isn’t the best of moves.
