Unai Emery to make Diego Carlos decision as Aston Villa XI v Wolves predicted
We’re delighted to welcome former Aston Villa full-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Villa Park…
Alan Hutton doesn’t expect to see Unai Emery make any changes to the Aston Villa starting line-up ahead of the trip to Wolves this weekend.
Villa head to Molineux on Saturday (6 May) hoping to bounce back from their first defeat since mid-February when they lost 1-0 at Manchester United last week.
Emery hadn’t been one for changing his team up too much during that 10-match unbeaten streak, only making the odd alteration if he was forced to by injuries.
And even though it’s getting closer to the end of the season and players like Diego Carlos aren’t getting much of a chance at the moment, Hutton believes Emery will stick with the team he played at Old Trafford despite the defeat.
Speaking to Villa News, Hutton said: “Emery likes what he likes and the formation doesn’t really change. Personnel doesn’t change either unless there have been injuries. And it’s working.
“Before the Man United game, they’d gone 10 unbeaten with eight wins and two draws so it’s working and you don’t really need to change it.
“Dendoncker’s come in and done really well with Kamara out injured and obviously Bailey’s still out, meaning Traore’s come back into the fold and scored a couple of goals.
“I don’t really feel the need to change anything. Look at Diego Carlos sitting on the bench. £26million in the summer and still can’t get back into the side because Ezri Konsa and Tyrone Mings are playing so well.
“I don’t see any point in changing and Wolves had a torrid weekend so you’d hope they’d go and put pressure on them to see if they can deal with it.”
Wolves lost 6-0 to Brighton in their last game with Julen Lopetegui’s men not having anything to really play for in the final weeks of the Premier League season.
Villa, on the other hand, still have a very realistic chance of qualifying for European football as they currently occupy seventh place in the league.
In other Aston Villa news, the Villans have been backed to complete one major deal in the summer after an update from Fabrizio Romano.
