Aston Villa power play in new ownership strategy to help compete in Europe and beyond – Finance Guru
We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist, he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Aston Villa…
Dan Plumley has insisted that the Aston Villa owners may have made a real power play to compete in Europe and beyond with their push for a new multi-club model.
The club’s holding company, V Sports, set up by Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris are looking for global expansion with a 46% stake in Portuguese club Vitoria Sport their latest move.
Finance expert, Plumley admitted that it helps with transfers among many other things as using this company makes a real difference in their “powerful” brand push to invest in clubs due to lettering.

“Joking aside, that is probably part of the strategic play with this,” he exclusively told Villa News.
“It is multi-club ownership, and if that is the way they are going, the potential to brand that proposition around it. We know the positives around it with opening knowledge exchange, player acquisition, player development, and branded commercial opportunities, it spreads and limits risk.
“We know why clubs are looking at that, but from a brand point of view, this gives it differentiation because it is not just multi-club ownership in different territories, it’s actually targeted around the lettering of the club, that can be quite powerful from a brand point of view in the future and if you develop the portfolio, so it is a really interesting sub-plot within that multi-club ownership for Villa if that is where they are going to go.

“Again, if you’re an established Premier League club with a good home and traditional fan base, what we term as a big club in this country, then it is the way that a lot of them are going as they try to compete in Europe and beyond as well.”
With Unai Emery at the helm, returning to Europe on the pitch will also help this push to compete beyond that with this new power play from the owners.
All eyes are on the boardroom at Villa park right now, with change clearly coming in this new move for domination.
In other Aston Villa news, the future of this loanee hangs in the balance as contract talks await.
