Jacob Ramsey will be looking over his shoulder after Aston Villa win v Everton

Aston Villa returned to winning ways in the Premier League on Saturday 25 February, leaving Goodison Park with all three points and a 2-0 win over Everton.

Unai Emery continued with his 4-4-2 formation with more central players Jacob Ramsey and John McGinn playing out wide but with permission to drift in centrally whenever.

Emi Buendia scored the second goal after coming off the bench with Ollie Watkins continuing his fine form with another goal for the Villans.

Despite the win, Ramsey will be one of those looking over his shoulder.

Breaking down the numbers, the 21-year-old was nowhere near effective enough and would have been slightly cringing as Buendia showed him how it should be done.

Attempting only three dribbles was not enough alone, but only successfully completing one of those only highlights that Emery needs someone with more cutting edge right now [WhoScored].

On top of that, Ramsey was also dispossessed two times in the game, the third most on the pitch as he failed to carve the game open as much as would have been wanted.

With 3.3% of the total Villa possession going through him, Ramsey saw more of the ball than McGinn, but the Scotsman was far more effective, winning the penalty and collecting an assist.

Ramsey may be much more suited to a central role rather than on the left hand side, as he can get on the ball more and make things happen, rather than seeing less of possession.

Midway through the second half was a perfect example, as he played a brilliant ball down the left to Lucas Digne, rather than being the winger who was running at the full-back himself.

Ramsey (pictured above, bottom right) was nowhere near the action after playing the pass, and it almost led to Watkins heading home, only for Jordan Pickford to pull off an excellent save.

That change did happen towards the end of the game, with Buendia going on to the left, with Ramsey dropping into a midfield central three to seal all the points.

Ramsey will certainly be looking over his shoulder moving forward, with the change to a central role something that couldsave his starting spot rather than praying he stays on the left.

This is certainly one to watch.

In other Aston Villa news, this academy player could be the next star in waiting at Bodymoor Heath after back-to-back goals for the Under-23s.
