Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings faces race against time to be fit for Arsenal clash – report

Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings is facing a race against time to be fit for their Premier League clash with Arsenal at Villa Park, according to Express and Star.

The England international missed the 3-1 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday with a thigh injury and the report states that Unai Emery was hopeful Mings will be fit for Saturday’s meeting with the Gunners but is now thought to be 50/50 to make the game.

Villa have struggled without their captain, losing all three of the games he hasn’t featured in. Calum Chambers is expected to deputise once again against his old club.

Need him back quickly

Of the 12 games Mings has missed since his move from Bournemouth in 2019, Villa have won just once which highlights just how crucial he is to the whole club.

The England international was sorely missed against Manchester City, in which Emery’s men missed his aggression, leadership and communication at the back with Villa struggling to contain City’s free-flowing football.

It would be a huge blow if the defender was to miss the clash with Arsenal on Saturday as the Gunners look to get back to winning ways. The Villans desperately need a win themselves having not tasted victory since the end of January.

If Emery is to have any chance of toppling his old club on Saturday, he will certainly need Mings fit which is looking unlikely by the hour, he’ll indeed be a huge huge miss if he doesn’t make it.

The Spaniard will certainly need to address their lack of quality defensive options in the summer, especially with Diego Carlos still out with a long-term injury.

In other Aston Villa news, the club face competition from Barcelona to secure the signing of a striker at the end of the season.
