The midfielder is hoping to carry that promise into the Emery tenure, with the club undergoing a brilliant transformation since the Spaniard’s appointment in October.

He said: “With the ambition of the club and of the gaffer and of the owners, we need to be competing against the likes of Spurs and Man United if we want to push into the Europa League places or top-half of the table,” he added. “We’ve got another chance on Sunday.”

Right track

Replacing Steven Gerrard with Emery is proving an ingenious decision by the Villa hierarchy as the Spaniard is the perfect coach to bring the glory days back to Villa Park, considering his wealth of achievement and experience on the biggest stage.

And Ramsey will almost certainly be a huge part of that in the foreseeable future.

The 21-year-old is arguably the face of the new revolution at Villa Park and will be key to their hopes of finishing in the top half of the Premier League table following a difficult campaign under the previous management.

Ramsey is right in that the club will certainly need to challenge the likes of Tottenham and Manchester United if they are to consistently be a top European outfit, and to do that Emery will certainly need some backing which he is expected to get this coming summer.

Nonetheless, with the likes of Ramsey at his disposal, and every player currently pulling their weight under the Spaniard’s meticulous management they are certainly on the right track.
