Aston Villa Women Experts: Transfer round-up as Jordan Nobbs fronts January business
We’re delighted to welcome author Freya Taylor and former academy player Lyndsey Bissell as our exclusive Aston Villa Women experts. Each week they’ll be collaborating to give their views on the biggest talking points at the WSL club…
With the transfer window closing, we were all hoping for some late deals to come through to boost the fantastic business Carla Ward has already done within the last month. She did hint at another player coming through the door during this window, but as of writing, no such player has materialised.
Players in: Jordan Nobbs: Was the first player signed in this window, who was a shock to many after leaving Arsenal after 12 years in search of more minutes prior to the World Cup later this year. She transferred to Aston Villa for an undisclosed fee with an 18-month contract with the option to extend.
Lucy Staniforth: Another previous Lioness was added to the Villa ranks during this window after her contract with Manchester United ended and is a very welcome addition to the pride.

Speaking on the Boots, Balls and Bras podcast earlier this week, Lucy says she feels like Aston Villa should be higher than they are in the table (currently 6th) due to the way the girls are playing with a “fearlessness of a team that are aspiring to break down those spaces between top five/top four.”
Already these two players have impressed with how seamlessly they’ve blended into the team and we can’t wait to see how they perform in our next run of fixtures.
Players out: Isobel Goodwin: After a mutually terminated contract, Izzy signed a new contract with Coventry United and head coach Lee Burch is “looking forward to seeing the impact she can have on our season.”

Olivia McLoughlin: Has agreed to a loan deal until the end of the season with Birmingham City. Liv made 13 appearances for Aston Villa this season and will now help Birmingham City in their promotion campaign from the Championship.
In other Aston Villa news, Carla Ward must find a contingency plan in case Rachel Daly gets injured for her side this season.
