Aston Villa Academy: Rory Wilson right for first professional contract after blistering season – view

Aston Villa teenage sensation Rory Wilson is set to be rewarded for his stunning form this season with a first professional contract at Villa Park, according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano.

The former Rangers youngster joined Villa back in July after smashing home 49 goals in a last season and has hit the ground running since moving south of the border.

Although numerous names have stood out this season, Wilson has sent chins wagging about his future potential after netting four goals in five starts for the Under-23s, as well as a bundle more for the Under-18s in 2022.

Taking to Twitter to discuss Wilson, transfer guru Romano said: “Aston Villa have reached an agreement for talented striker Rory Wilson to sign his first professional deal, considered one of the most interesting Academy talents for the future.

“Deal will be completed soon, Wilson scored 17 goals this year — joined AVFC from Rangers.”

The acquisition of Wilson could be a real coup for Villa in the coming years, as the 17-year-old is rated as one of the best young strikers in Europe.

Wilson has already featured in both the EFL Trophy, the Premier League 2 and the FA Youth Cup this season, and he left fans purring after netting a sublime hat-trick against Brentford in the latter competition.

The first of his goals was the pick of the bunch, as the attacker instinctively chipped the Bees’ keeper from a ridiculously tight angle. This ice-cold finish was followed up by a brace of fine finishes, with the Villa ace deservedly taking home the match ball.

The Scottish-born striker could well prove himself a real coup for Villa in the long run, and snapping him up on a first professional contract will keep him away from the clutches of the Premier League’s top clubs for the time being.

Wilson is clearly a frightening prospect, and Villa must be careful to manage him correctly over the coming seasons. The club’s mismanagement of Carney Chukwuemeka resulted in his blockbuster £20 million move to Chelsea in the summer, and fans will hope Villa’s newest starlet won’t follow suit.

There is no doubt Unai Emery will be watching Wilson’s progress with eagle eyes after he puts pen to paper, and the striker could well be the next star to break out of the Villa academy.

In other Aston Villa news, Jan Bednarek’s return to Southampton will make no difference to Villa.
