Finance Expert reacts as Aston Villa sign new partnership with William Hill
We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist, he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Aston Villa.
Dan Plumley has insisted that Aston Villa will keep their deals under review as it was confirmed that William Hill had become a new partner of the club.
With betting companies under increased scrutiny within football, there is the possibility that sponsorships and collaborations may be banned in the near future.
Finance Expert, Plumley suggested that there would have to be a transition period even if that did happen, with a short-term deal likely between Villa and William Hill.

“They tend to be [short-term deals],” he exclusively told Villa News.
“In terms of a good time, as long as it is a short-term deal, the ban has not been fully put in place yet and if it were, how do you do it? You can’t just rip it away as there are deals in place, so there would have to be a transition.
“Clubs are probably looking at that and thinking we will make hay while the sun is still shining and if we can sign a short-term deal and keep it under review, then you have time to react to the external situation if that happens.
“It’s squeezing as much as you can out of it while you can and if it’s a good deal for Villa and it’s short term, you can see why they have taken it and they will be able to react to any changes accordingly.”

It is unknown whether or not deals like this will be banned in the future compared to shirt sponsorships, but this is certainly one to watch as time moves forward in the Premier League.
