Finance Expert reacts as Aston Villa get permission for Villa Park expansion

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist, he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Aston Villa.

Dan Plumley has insisted that Aston Villa will see real growth in their revenue income after plans were green-lighted for the expansion of Villa Park.

The Finance Expert predicted that the Villans could bring in up to £7million-per-season of extra revenue if they add in the extra seats as well as extra hospitality opportunities.

BBC shared the news on 22 December that the expansion was given the go-ahead, with Plumley admitting that the club can now get on with the planning.

“Putting some average numbers on it, 7,500 seats, if they are just average ticket prices, that’s going to generate around £4-5million extra each season in matchday revenue,” he exclusively told Villa News.

“If you try and extract more from that from commercial hospitality type tickets, you may then stretch that so you’re looking at £5-7million as a boost.

“Obviously, the wider factor of the growth and development of the club, it will be in the few million overall and puts them on a growth in terms of their revenue income perspective that is what clubs are trying to do.

“It’s good news all around that the council have approved it, and the club can get on with planning it.”

Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens have big plans for the club, that is very clear.

This starts with Villa Park, and no doubt this redevelopment will be a huge step for the Villans moving forward and hopefully upwards in the Premier League.

In other Aston Villa news, Philippe Coutinho should start in Jacob Ramsey’s injury absence against Tottenham.
