Finance Expert reacts as Aston Villa set to deliver plans for stadium expansion

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist, he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Aston Villa

Dan Plumley has insisted that Aston Villa expanding their stadium would be a “massive financial boost” for the club moving forward in their history.

The finance Expert admitted that many clubs are eyeing long-term return on their investments and this is the perfect way to grow their revenue.

It comes after Ashley Preece reported that the Villa Park extension plan is set to be put to Birmingham City Council in December, with the recommendation being to approve.

“It’s a massive financial boost,” he exclusively told Villa News.

“As we say, it’s what a lot of clubs are targeting at the minute, that long-term return on investment. That can really set you up for strong revenue growth in terms of your matchday income in the future, and again, look at the way the club is trying to go, and it’s trying to grow.

“They are a big club with a big history and fan base, and success on the pitch is what they’re targeting as well but if you can generate bigger stadiums, with better hospitality offers and other events, other ways to grow matchday revenue outside of the traditional norm then that is only a boost for the club.

“If the council are backing it as well, then that is really positive.”

This is certainly one to watch at Villa Park.

Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris have made it no secret that the plan is to progress this sleeping giant back to the good old days, and the appointment of Unai Emery proved that.

Adding a stadium extension and more investment in the squad will only help that happen.
