Alan Hutton: Cameron Archer could leave Aston Villa on loan
We’re delighted to welcome former Aston Villa full-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Villa Park
Alan Hutton has claimed Cameron Archer could leave Aston Villa on loan as the 20-year-old continues to struggle for first-team minutes at Villa Park.
The striker has featured for Villa just six times so far in the 2022/23 season with all of his appearances coming from the substitutes bench.
Hutton feels the youngster has to be playing football with Archer still having “a lot to give” for Emery’s side in the coming years.

“Right now I would say probably yes [go out on loan],” Hutton exclusively told Villa News.
“I know he’s been and around the squad and he has got a lot to give but I don’t see him being a regular starter at this moment in time, so I think he has to go out and play football.
“Unai Emery will still be evaluating the squad and who will be part of that but he will want his own players in as well. Does he maybe bring in a striker?
“If that’s the case the Archer will fall down the pecking order just a little bit. He has to go out and play football instead of staying at Villa if he wants to continue to develop.”

January could well be an interesting month for the striker, with there likely to be a host of Championship clubs vying for his services.
Last season saw Archer explode onto the scene with an impressive loan spell at Preston North End in the second half of the campaign.
