Ty Bracey expects Aston Villa to back Unai Emery in January transfer window

We’re delighted to welcome Villa View host Ty Bracey as our exclusive Aston Villa columnist each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the club…

Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens are prepared to back new Aston Villa manager Unai Emery in the January transfer window, in Ty Bracey’s opinion.

The club will only be playing their fifth game under the former Villarreal boss when the window opens on New Year’s Day, but the first half of the season has made it pretty evident that the squad could do with some reshaping, and any manager would want to do so in their own image.

In light of the money that was spent in the summer Bracey doesn’t expect Emery to have total free rein in the transfer market, but is confident that having gone out to get the 51-year-old midseason the owners are ready to give him what he needs.

“Yeah absolutely, Nassef’s gone out and explained the plan to him,” Bracey said, speaking exclusively to Villa News.

“I can’t imagine it will be an open chequebook because we’ve spent a lot money, but I think he’ll be given the power to make the signings that he wants.

“But ultimately I don’t think it boils down to just Emery, I think he has to get the nod from the people above him.

“So I assume he will prompt who he wants to sign and then it’s a matter of if they approve or not from there.”

Ex-Arsenal boss Emery has done an impressive job in a short space of time so far, picking up the pieces of a broken-looking squad that appeared to lack pace, width, and most of the time inspiration.

A certain amount of what was lacking will be psychological as a result of the way things went under Steven Gerrard as there is undoubtedly quality at the club.

But the new man having different ideas from the old one is very much the reason he was brought in, so he is sure to want different players to carry those ideas out, and assurances on what he will be afforded in his first window are bound to have been a key part of the discussions before he signed a contract.

In other Aston Villa news, Bracey likes the thought of Eden Hazard at Villa Park but won’t be getting ahead of himself yet.
