Alan Hutton: Aston Villa will be massively improved when Premier League restarts
We’re delighted to welcome former Aston Villa full-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Villa Park.
Alan Hutton believes Aston Villa will be massively improved when the Premier League restarts after the World Cup break.
Unai Emery has started his life at the club with back-to-back league wins to take the Villans up to 12th in the standings.
However, Hutton still feels there’s even more room for improvement and expects Villa to be far more consistent when the domestic campaign does get back underway.

“Steven Gerrard obviously got sacked so it tells you it’s not where they want to be in midtable,” Hutton exclusively told Villa News.
“14th or just below is not where the board see the club in the future so they’ve had to make that change. It’s been up and down and the consistency is not there and I think that’s something they really need to work on.
“Over this break, Emery will be given an opportunity to work with this squad and I think we will see a massive improvement when the league comes back around. They will be aiming to climb the table as quickly as possible and their aim will be the top half come the end of the season.
“So as I say the sacking of Gerrard tells you they weren’t happy with how it was going.”

The 50-year-old will be relishing the opportunity to get to work with his players for a month on the training pitch without the pressure of first-team games.
It’s been a difficult start to the season for Villa fans, but it appears there is finally some much-needed positivity back around the club, after a difficult period at the start of the campaign.
