Alan Shearer names Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey in Team of the Week

Alan Shearer has named Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey in his Team of the Week after his performance over the weekend.

The Villans ran riot over Manchester United in Unai Emery’s first game in charge of the club.

They ended up winning the contest 3-1 at Villa Park after scoring two early goals because Ramsey scored an impressive long-ranged effort in the second half.

Shearer told the Premier League website, “Rewarded Emery’s faith in him with a man-of-the-match performance. Man Utd couldn’t handle his clever movement.”

What a performance

John McGinn was on the bench for this one and it surely would’ve given many Villa fans a shock.

The Scotsman was named captain and was omnipresent when Steven Gerrard was in charge of the club.

However, Emery appeared to take the shackles off this team and Ramsey then played as an attacking player, often as a second striker.

He constantly looked to make runs behind and was a nightmare for the United players to deal with.

At 21, he is already proving why he deserves to be in the spotlight and be a regular for Villa because he’s so good every time he plays.

Emery could be the perfect manager to take him to that next level and we’re waiting to see whether or not he goes on to become an England international in the next year or two.
