Alan Hutton: Unai Emery must find system to suit players at Aston Villa
We’re delighted to welcome former Aston Villa full-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Villa Park.
Alan Hutton feels Unai Emery must get a system in place that works for the players he has at his disposal after his appointment as Aston Villa manager.
The Spaniard was announced as Steven Gerrard’s successor on Monday (28 October) and will take charge of three matches before the World Cup break.
Hutton believes a manager with slightly more experience will be able to make subtle changes to get the most out of Villa’s talented squad.

“Putting a system in place that works for the players he’s got at this moment in time, I’ve always said there’s a lot of ability within that dressing room.” Hutton exclusively told Villa News.
“I think it’s about getting the right blend between being defensively sound and having that attacking threat and I think Gerrard maybe struggled with that.
“When you look at the game against Brentford, Bailey was on the left and Watkins was on the right which Gerrard never did and it worked a treat.
“It’s just subtle things and managers with more experience can see that, they can try different things so I think it’s about getting that system in place for players that are in the building.”

Aaron Danks is set to take charge of the side this weekend as the Villans travel to St James’ Park to face Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United side.
Villa have received a double injury boost in recent weeks with Boubacar Kamara set to return before the international break (The Athletic, 26 October) and Lucas Digne potentially fit to face the Magpies.
In other Villa news, Alan Hutton would have liked Steven Gerrard to stay at Aston Villa
