Unai Emery set to reunite with Villarreal trio as backroom staff at Aston Villa – report

Unai Emery is set to take charge of Aston Villa on 1 November, and The Times have suggested which of his Villarreal staff will be joining him.

Aston Villa moved quickly after scaking Steven Gerrard to find a suitable replacement, with former Arsenal boss Emery taking his place at Villa Park.

The Spaniard is set to take charge on 1 November, and The Times report he’ll be joined by Pablo Villanueva and Antonio Rodriguez in the Midlands, as well as former video analyst Victor Manas.

Villanueva has worked alongside Emery at Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal, Sevilla and Villarreal, while Rodriquez only joined Emery as a technical assistant in Spain. Manas has been working with Emery for over 14 years.

Surrounded with talent

If Emery is to lead Villa out of their precarious position and up the table this season, then he’ll need all the help he can get.

As well as that, the Spaniard has a very specific style of play and will need his assistants and coaches to help translate his style to the squad.

It’s promising that Villa have backedEmery to bring in his own backroom staff, and it’s exciting for fans that he’ll reunite with the team that helped him win the Europa League just two years ago.

That European triumph came against Manchester United, and strangely enough, Emery’s first challenge in the Villa hot seat will be beating them again on 6 November.

There’s no chance that Emery will have the squad fully implementing his game plan on such short notice, but hopefully, the squad is still ecstatic about his appointment at Villa Park.

A quick start would be ideal to help steer Villa clear of the relegation zone. Once all nerves of going down have been dropped, fans and players will both start to grow in confidence.
