Darren Bent: Unai Emery appointment exciting for Aston Villa fans

Darren Bent has been left excited as Aston Villa have appointed Unai Emery as Steven Gerrard’s successor.

The former Liverpool captain was relatively unpopular in his short stint at Villa Park and was eventually shown the door by the owners.

Emery, the ex Arsenal boss, has now been put in to get a tune out of this expensive squad of players that have been tipped to take the side to Europe.

Bent told talkSPORT, “You can’t poke holes in Emery’s pedigree, he’s won the Europa League four times! You don’t win the trophies he’s won if you’re not a good coach. If I’m an #AstonVilla fan, I’d say I’m quite excited about it.”

Trophy winner

Emery is a proven trophy winner and that’s the kind of manager Villa need.

Their squad is much better than where they currently are on the table and the Spaniard will be good enough to get a tune out of the players.

It will be interesting to see what kind of formation he deploys at Villa Park as he was a mixed back during his Arsenal days.

While he did play a back three on occasion, we do not see him moving from his usual back four so a 4-3-3, 4-2-3-1 should be on the cards.

His system is not too dissimilar to Gerrard’s but he certainly is the better coach and we’re excited to see what he brings to the table.

His first game in charge will be in November and he’ll certainly be envious of the challenge he has at hand and the players in the squad.

In other Aston Villa news, Tim Sherwood has made a prediction about whether or not Unai Emery will be a success at Villa Park.
