Stuart Pearce: Sean Dyce would have been good appointment for Aston Villa

Stuart Pearce believes that Sean Dyche would have been a good option at Aston Villa as they looked for a new manager.

After sacking Steven Gerrard, Villa were linked with a number of managers before deciding on Unai Emery who was in charge of Villarreal.

However, the Spaniard struggled at Arsenal in his first Premier League stint and Pearce sees Dyche as a better option.

Pearce told talkSPORT, “I would have loved Sean Dyche to be given the opportunity {At Aston Villa}. At Newcastle, they didn’t want Eddie Howe…they now sit 4th in the league.”

Too passive

Dyche has achieved success at Burnley and helped them punch above their weight but his style of football is not the most pleasing.

He plays a passive brand of football and has two banks of four in place to disrupt the opposition attack.

He likes his teams playing on the break with a tall and strong target man to serve as the out ball – something that is unlikely at Villa.

The Villans have a number of technical players and they require a manager who plays football the right way.

Emery is certainly a good coach who can play expansive football and given the players he currently has, we think that he’s the right fit.

He will not be in charge this weekend as his work permit process would mean he won’t officially begin his new role until 1 November.
