Aston Villa ready to move heaven and earth to appoint Mauricio Pochettino – report

Aston Villa are eyeing up former Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino to replace Steven Gerrard as their manager, according to the Telegraph.

The report suggests that Villa will make the ambitious move for the Argentine should Gerrard be sacked by the Midlands club.

Gerrard is currently getting ready to take charge in the game against Fulham on Thursday evening and Brentford at Villa Park on Sunday, two fixtures that may decide his fate.

A journalist for the Telegraph, Matt Law, weighed in on English football’s hottest news via his Twitter page, claiming the Villans are prepared to “move heaven and earth” to try and land Pochettino.

Former Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel and ex-Arsenal manager Unai Emery are being considered as backups if Pochettino decides against taking the role.

Aston Villa

Madness.

The world of football moves quickly and it seems Gerrard’s time at Villa Park is numbered, it may only be a matter of time before he is relieved of his duties.

Pochettino is certainly an ambitious target for Aston Villa and it would be extremely interesting to see what he could do at the club with the funds they provide.

Gerrard’s Villa put in a solid showing on Sunday afternoon against Chelsea, despite this, they still slumped to a 2-0 defeat.

Villa have scored only seven Premier League goals and this is where their problem lies, whether this is down to Gerrard’s tactics or poor forward play is up for debate.

Nevertheless, the allure of Pochettino will surely get Villans excited, it’s the type of appointment every fan craves and he’s the type of boss who can lead them to European football.

The clock is ticking for Gerrard, Villa’s clash at Craven Cottage on Thursday evening may be his last.
