Aston Villa forward Leon Bailey faces late fitness test for Nottingham Forest clash – report

Aston Villa forward Leon Bailey faces a late fitness test to see whether he’ll be available for Monday night’s clash against Nottingham Forest, according to the Express and Star.

The Jamaica international has started to find some form, starting for Steven Gerrard’s team in their last four Premier League fixtures.

Gerrard faces a selection headache with numerous first-team talents suffering injury setbacks, as Ludwig Augustinsson and Lucas Digne are also out.

Gerrard’s Villa are unbeaten in their last three Premier League fixtures, however, their performances have left much to be desired.

This is largely down to the lack of goals the team are producing, something that Bailey must hold his hands up for alongside forwards Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings.

Firepower

Villa are currently lacking firepower in abundance in their misfiring squad, Watkins, Ings and Bailey have all been way off it so far this season.

Gerrard’s side have only managed six goals in eight Premier League games, a disheartening total and evidence they need to invest in some new forwards.

The Villans didn’t add any attacking options to their team this summer so there’s space in the squad to invest in some poaching talents.

However, Villa did spend £63million in other areas of the squad, meaning there may not be the necessary funds to splash out on a top talent just yet.

With Villa grinding out results but failing to capitalise in front of goal, their problem area is evident and it seems the team can’t rely on Watkins this campaign, as well as an ageing Ings.

The former Rangers boss’s heavily defensive system doesn’t help matters but they may need to sign a forward more suited to his tactics moving forward.
