Matty Cash returns to Aston Villa training to be in contention v Nottingham Forest

Steven Gerrard has confirmed that Aston Villa defender Matty Cash will be available for the game against Nottingham Forest over the weekend.

The Villans have missed the services of the Poland international but he’s now back in training and in contention for the game.

However, the likes of Calum Chambers and Leon Bailey are still not guaranteed to be fit as a decision will be soon made on them.

Gerrard said, “Matty is back in full training and available for Nottingham Forest.”

Via Twitter, injury expert Ben Dinnery wrote, “Matty Cash has been cleared to return following a hamstring injury. A decision on Calum Chambers and Leon Bailey will be made closer to game day with Villa travelling to the City Ground on Monday. Digne and Ludwig Augustinsson have been ruled out.”

Much needed

Villa had Ezri Konsa playing at right-back towards the end of the Leeds United clash and that was undoubtedly a worry.

Ashley Young was playing there but an injury to Ludwig Augustinsson saw him move to left-back.

Cash has undoubtedly been one of Villa’s best players since he joined the club and his absence has been felt by Gerrard.

There’s a very good chance that the former Liverpool captain will throw him right into the playing eleven as that’s how important he is to his side.

He offers this Villa team something else going forward and that’s vital given just how bad they’ve fared in the final third recently.

Cash will look to combine with the attacking players and at the same time, will definitely put the opposition full-backs under pressure.
