Matty Cash reveals how recovery is going ahead of Aston Villa injury return
Matty Cash has revealed that he is nearing a return to action for Aston Villa after a hamstring injury at the start of the season.
The Poland international hasn’t featured for Villa since going off after 27 minutes of the 1-1 draw with Manchester City at the start of September, but has missed just one game so far due to the postponements and international break.
With Villa set to take on Leeds on Sunday, Cash appeared on Ben Foster’s podcast on YouTube and was asked about his recovery where he revealed that he is “nearly there” in terms of a return to action.
“I strained my hammy [hamstring] again,” he said. “So we had a tough week, we had three games in a week and we played Arsenal on the Wednesday night.
“I had a little bit of a problem in my calf, and I hadn’t been injured for ages. Obviously the season before I played every game and didn’t miss a minute, so it’s about time I had a little something.
“I had a little tight calf against Arsenal and I was running a bit different, putting more stress on my hamstring. I just tweaked my hammy a little bit – it was a grade three.
“I had quite a lot of bleeding as well. I had a hamstring injury two, three years ago and it healed quite well. It’s been three weeks and I’m already out there running, on the balls, I’m pretty much doing everything.
“I feel great, so I think I’m nearly there.”
Thank God
Cash thankfully hasn’t missed that much action, but we can safely say that he was a big miss against Southampton despite the team winning and the fact he’s due back soon is great news.

With Lucas Digne likely to miss a while after picking up an ankle injury on international duty with France, the quicker Cash can return at right back means Ashley Young will be able to move across to the left.
He’s unlikely to be ready to face Leeds on Sunday which means summer signing Ludwig Augustinsson should make his debut, but with a really hectic schedule in October the quicker he’s fit the better.
His energy to get up and down the flank and help in both attack and defence is a huge part of the way Steven Gerrard wants to set the team up.
It’s important not to rush him back too soon and lose him again, but it’s great news to hear that he is on the verge of a return and the squad is stronger once again.
