Aston Villa: Ludwig Augustinsson or Ashley Young could replace injured Lucas Digne

Aston Villa are dealing with numerous major new injury blows this season after new problems for Lucas Digne and Boubacar Kamara in recent weeks.

That is after Diego Carlos was also ruled out for months with his injury after sealing his sensational summer switch to Villa Park.

With the international break now over, Villa now return to Premier League action with a trip to Elland Road to take on Leeds United in what promises to be a great clash.

Digne looks set to miss out as he continue his recovery.

Birmingham Live has reported that there are two options who could come in for the Villans in West Yorkshire, and they are Ludwig Augustinsson and Ashley Young.

The latter has been filling in at right-back recently with Matty Cash also having injury issues, meaning that there may only be one choice on the opposite flank.

Augustinsson is yet to make his Premier League debut since arriving from Sevilla on loan, but now the door could have opened perfectly for that to happen.

Options.

This is where our transfer policy could pay off.

Not many were left excited by Augustinsson arriving over the summer, but now it looks to be a very smart piece of business given that Digne could be out for weeks.

The Frenchman has a history of injuries during his time away with France, and it has happened again after his solid enough start to the Premier League season.

Gerrard has options available to him, but given the vast number of injuries, they are slowly falling away so some may need to be wrapped in cotton wool.

Hopefully, the Lions can get a lead at Elland Road and that can lead to some rotation with five substitutes available, but Augustinsson may be one of those who is required to complete 90 minutes.

With games now coming thick and fast due to the upcoming World Cup and previous postponements, this is starting to become a real concern, so let’s hope the squad can have some consistency with few changes needed after this weekend.
