View: Gareth Southgate making mistake overlooking Aston Villa ace Jacob Ramsey
England manager Gareth Southgate may regret not taking Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey to the World Cup in Qatar later this year.
The 21-year-old is yet to be capped for the Three Lions and is now unlikely to suddenly make the cut for the November tournament.
This certainly will come as a surprise to many Villa fans, especially after what was said of the midfielder earlier this year.

Speaking in March, Southgate said: “I think Jacob is doing really well. I think at this moment in time Conor Gallagher is slightly ahead. They are both pushing Jude (Bellingham), who has been in our squad for a while.
“Those two are really pushing Jude, there’s no doubt about that, and pushing some of the older players in that group as well. That’s an area where Curtis Jones is also emerging at Liverpool. There are some good attacking midfield players that are good at pressing the opposition and look like they can take goals as well.”
If Jordan Henderson can make the England squad then Ramsey surely can, given how good he’s been for Villa over the past year.
Nobody expected a youngster to be that good that early in his career but Ramsey certainly defied all odds.
He’s been impeccable in every possible way for Steven Gerrard’s side and we’re surprised that a big club hasn’t made a serious offer to sign him.
Rest assured, Villa fans are satisfied that they’ve got a talent like the 21-year-old at their club and hopefully, he should continue this rich vein of form.
Should Southgate have an underwhelming campaign at the World Cup, there’s a good chance he’s replaced and the new manager would certainly look at Ramsey as one for the future.
