Aston Villa handed ‘reassuring’ injury update on Lucas Digne by L’Equipe after ankle fracture
Lucas Digne was expected to be out for two months after suffering an ankle fracture, but the latest scans have given the Aston Villa star some good news.
Digne would’ve been delighted after hearing the news that he was called up to France’s final squad before the start of the World Cup this winter.
However, the 29-year-old was forced to withdraw after just 24 hours after he suffered a fracture to his ankle. Initial reports expected him to miss up to two months of action – rendering him a doubt for the World Cup.

But the latest scans have offered a much more promising recovery date, with L’Equipe reporting that he should be back fit in under three weeks.
“The new exams taken in recent days in England are much more reassuring,” L’Equipe reported.
“The doctors are now counting on two to three weeks of absence because the small fracture, accompanied by a small bone edema, was detected in time.”
Rare good news
This international break has been an absolute nightmare for Aston Villa fans.
Just as the side recorded their second win of the campaign against Southampton, they were denied the chance to build on their momentum by the break.

Instead, all that has happened is Villa players have dropped down injured, leaving Steven Gerrard with a very thin squad.
Digne is, of course, involved in that injury list. But the latest update on his recovery brings some rare good news to Gerrard and his staff.
The marauding left-back should be back in mid-late October, which means he should be available for an incredibly tough run that sees Villa play Manchester United twice, as well as Newcastle United and Brighton.
It’ll be key for Villa to head into the World Cup break in a good position, as who knows which players will be fit and in form when the Premier League returns on Boxing Day.
