Christian Purslow continues to back Steven Gerrard amid Aston Villa fans frustration
Aston Villa chief executive officer Christian Purslow is continuing to back Steven Gerrard despite a stuttering start to the new campaign.
Birmingham Live journalist Ashley Preece has suggested to Give Me Sport that Purslow is set to back Gerrard as the club’s manager.
Villa have shown signs of recovery just before the international break, and Gerrard will hope that they can continue that form.

“I think he’s got a strong relationship with the man that brought him to Villa Park, Christian Purslow. I think he’s backing him. He’s a rookie Premier League manager,” Preece told Give Me Sport.
“He hasn’t been in the job a year yet, so he’s learning on the job. I know that’d be frustrating to hear for Villa fans. But that’s the realisation. He’s learning on the job. He’s admitted to making mistakes, this season and last season.”
Momentum
The pressure was mounting on Gerrard after a slow start to the season, but it seems the Villa board always had full belief in their manager.
Both Gerrard and Purslow share a special relationship and it means unless there’s a dramatic collapse, the former Rangers boss won’t be facing the sack anytime soon.
They were brilliant against Manchester City and picked up a 1-0 win against Southampton prior to the international break.
It will be interesting to see if can keep the momentum going.

The Villans will face two big games after the international that will really show whether they have recovered from their early slump.
They face Leeds United and Nottingham Forest in their next two games, and Gerrard will be hoping to pick up maximum points from those two fixtures.
The home games are very important, and they should be confident against Chelsea as well, after picking up a 1-1 draw against Man City earlier this month.
In other Aston Villa news, there is pressure on this Villan to step up and be counted for after problematic injury news emerged on Thursday.
