View: Leander Dendoncker must step up for Aston Villa after Boubacar Kamara injury

Aston Villa have finally got their season underway as they managed to secure their second win in the campaign against Southampton.

That victory pushed the side to the 15th position in the league table with seven points after seven matches.

However, Villa suffered a massive blow in the process as midfielder Boubacar Kamara suffered a knee ligament injury and is set to miss a couple of months’ action at least.

Villa were not that active in the recently concluded transfer window but they still managed to sign a number of players.

One of the players who they managed to bring in during the final days of the window was Leander Dendoncker, who arrived from league rivals Wolves in a deal worth £13 million.

Many thought he arrived as a potential replacement of Douglas Luiz, who was linked with a number of clubs. However, the Brazil international ended up staying at Villa Park despite him in the final year of the contract.

But now, it seems to be the right time for Dendoncker to show his worth to the Villa fans who will now be dreading the team’s chances after the injury to their star midfield signing.

The 27-year-old has ample amount of experience of playing in English top-flight football where he has already played 125 matches and scored nine times along with providing a couple of assists during his time at Molineux [Transfermarkt].
