Aston Villa ace Jacob Ramsey keeps England U21 place, Cameron Archer misses out
Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey will once again represent his country at the Under-21 level over the international break of September.
The 21-year-old will pull on the famous Three Lions of England in two matches after starting the season in Steven Gerrard’s lineup at Villa Park in the Premier League.
The Athletic’s Gregg Evans shared the news via his personal Twitter account but there was no place in the squad for Villa’s hotshot striker Cameron Archer.
“Jacob Ramsey keeps his place in the latest England U21 squad but there’s no room for Cameron Archer,” he said. “Must be down to Archer’s lack of minutes this season as he scored on his last EngU21 appearance.”
Archer has been restricted to the occasional substitute appearance so far this season at Aston Villa with Danny Ings and Ollie Watkins keeping a firm grasp on the starting spot.
Loan time
Gerrard was adamant in the summer that he would no let Archer leave the club on loan after Keinan Davis sealed his move to Watford and it is really hampering him.
The 20-year-old is at the stage in his career that he needs to be tested against senior defenders on a weekly basis and he just isn’t getting the challenge or game time he requires right now.

January can’t come soon enough for Archer who will be pushing harder than ever to get himself out of Villa Park, if only temporarily, so he can finally get playing games again.
Gerrard can try to stop it all he likes, if he’s still in the job by then, but he will only be hurting himself and the football club further down the line by denying him a move.
His potential is extremely high but the longer he is confined to Bodymoor, the nearing the ceiling becomes.
In other Aston Villa news, Chris Sutton has made his prediction ahead of Friday evening’s clash at home to Southampton.
