View: Aston Villa need Jacob Ramsey back to his very best
Aston Villa came into this campaign with a lot of optimism but after just six matchdays, things are looking not very promising.
The Villans have only managed to secure four points from the first half-a-dozen matches, leaving them in 17th position in the Premier League.
Those results have put manager Steven Gerrard’s future at stake as time is clearly running for him to turn things around.

Ramsey to the rescue?
When the team is going through a difficult phase, they often need some players to put their hands up and make themselves count.
Those players are not traditionally the ones with a bit of flair because their job is to produce moments of magic.
On most occasions, those players are the ones who can grind a result out for the team to put everything back on track.
One of those players for Villa could be central midfielder Jacob Ramsey who was more than impressive in the previous campaign but has so far found it hard to deliver for the side in the 2022-23 season.
In six Premier League matches this year, the 21-year-old provided just one assist, something not similar to what he produced in the previous campaign where he managed to score six times in 34 matches [Transfermarkt].

This season so far, he is only averaging 0.5 shots per game, half of what he produced in the previous season, showing that he is more focused on the defensive side of things.
However, even on that front, his performances have somewhat declined as in the previous campaign, he made two tackles, 0.7 interceptions and a similar amount of clearances per game [Whoscored], slightly better than this year despite playing just a handful of matches.
Those numbers suggest that when Ramsey was in form last season, Villa managed to dictate the pace of play, something they are finding it hard to do this time around.
Therefore, Gerrard will be hoping that the England U21 international will be able to once again showcase his talent which might help the side in producing positive results again.
In other Aston Villa news, Richard Keys has been singing the praises of one Villan who has proven his many critics wrong, including his manager.
