Matt Cash ‘gutted’ with injury blow as Aston Villa ace goes off v Manchester City

Matty Cash has failed to disclose any details about the injury that led to him being forced off the field in Aston Villa’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City on Saturday.

Cash, 25, lasted just 27 minutes before he was replaced by Ashley Young as Steven Gerrard’s side picked up a shock point against Pep Guardiola’s title-chasing Man City.

The Poland international is easily one of the most important players at Villa Park but his Instagram post after the game on Saturday (3 September) didn’t give any clues about how long he’s set to miss out.

“Gutted with the injury. But what a performance and atmosphere at Villa Park,” said the former Nottingham Forest full-back via his personal Instagram account.

Crucial

Aston Villa’s start to the season has been a bad one.

Before the draw with Villa, there had been rumblings among the fanbase about Gerrard’s future at Villa Park with the manager overseeing four defeats in the opening five Premier League games.

Villa had lost to Bournemouth, Crystal Palace and West Ham before welcoming champions Man City to the West Midlands and getting a point against them despite Erling Haaland scoring – again.

Cash missed the majority of the game after being subbed off before the half-hour mark.

In the hour that he missed, Villa played well, got on the scoresheet and were unfortunate to not win all three points.

Villa still need Cash back as soon as possible though.

Frederic Guilbert has been training with the Under-21s at Bodymoor Heath [BirminghamLive] but it might be time for him to get called back up to the senior side if Cash is out for any amount of time.

In other Aston Villa news, £30million worth of shares have been pumped into the club to ensure any debts can be cleared heading into the meat of the season.
