Alan Hutton: Boubacar Kamara can be main man in Aston Villa midfield

We’re delighted to welcome former Aston Villa full-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Villa Park

Alan Hutton believes Boubacar Kamara can be Aston Villa’s main man in the centre of midfield after Douglas Luiz nearly left Villa Park on deadline day.

Sky Sports reported on 1 September that Villa reject a £25million bid for Luiz, who is entering the final year of his current deal at the club.

With the Brazilian’s future up in the air, Hutton feels that Kamara can be the man to step up should Luiz leave the club.

“I have no doubt that Kamara could be Aston Villa’s leading man in midfield,” Hutton told Villa News.

“He’s in that holding midfield role which has allowed Douglas Luiz to play a little bit further forward, which I think he enjoys more.

“Luiz is obviously in the last year of his contract so it’s a tricky situation for Villa but if they do let him go I do think they’ll have to bring somebody in.

“If Gerrard lets one of his midfielders leave, they begin to look very thin in that area of the pitch.

The Independent reported on 2 September that Villa have slapped a £40million price tag on Luiz, despite his contract now entering its final year.

Luiz featured for the full 90 minutes of the Villan’s 1-1 draw against Champions Manchester City on Saturday evening 3 September.

Kamara also played alongside the Brazilian for the duration as Steven Gerrard eased some of the pressure on his shoulders with a battling display against Pep Guardiola’s side.
