Finance Expert Dan Plumley reacts to Aston Villa struggles with Cazoo as new sponsor hunt begins

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Aston Villa…

Dan Plumley has shared that Cazoo will likely have paid some if not all of their sponsorship money for the 2022-23 season as financial difficulties have now emerged.

The Finance Expert admitted that sometimes these deals can be paid in instalments, but the deal would likely not have been taken forward if no money was exchanged first.

It comes after reports from the Daily Mail (pictured below) reported that Villa had started looking for new shirt sponsors for next season and beyond once this current deal expires with Cazoo.

“My working assumption is that there will always be some of that money paid upfront at the start of the season,” he exclusively told Villa News.

“That makes sense, that sometimes will be the full amount, but sometimes it may be paid in instalments. I would be surprised if some of that money for the final year has not been agreed up front in the original documentation.

“It’s unlikely you would enter a deal without having some of that money paid upfront.”

Aston Villa

Trouble.

Cazoo have been big sponsors for numerous Premier League clubs over recent years, including Everton alongside Aston Villa in their portfolio.

That appears to have backfired and it will be all change at Villa Park in the 2023-24 season and beyond, in a new look for the Villans moving forward.

Betting companies are also facing big scrutiny now, so the Premier League could see big changes throughout.

Work will be continuing behind the scenes at the boardroom level and with prices increasing everywhere, hopefully, this can benefit the club financially too.
