Aston Villa plan to take Villa Park capacity beyond 50,000 – report
Aston Villa appear to be planning to extend the capacity of Villa Park to over 50,000, according to a recent report in the Telegraph.
They are planning a “stunning” redevelopment of the North Stand and also look to create a commercial hub on the blueprint of the stadium.
An inner-city academy is also in the works as the club hierarchy plan to give Villa the feeling that they’re ready to go to the next level.

Chief executive Christian Purslow said, “Following a successful consultation period, we are pleased to announce that we will be submitting our proposals for the redevelopment and expansion of Villa Park at the end of the month.
“We have received a hugely positive response from the local community, our supporters and other stakeholders and are confident that this project will transform both the stadium and the local area.
“These new CGI images showcase our spectacular vision for Villa Park which includes a brand-new commercial destination, Villa Live and high-quality public space for the community. We look forward to continuing to work with all partners to realise our future vision.”
Great job
We’re delighted by how much Purslow is committed to taking Villa to the next level and giving it that big club feeling.
Villa’s owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens have also played their part massively by pumping millions of pounds into making this club compete on the financial front with some of Europe’s finest.
The proposed expansions would place Villa Park just behind Manchester City, Liverpool and Newcastle United’s stadiums in maximum capacity.
The calibre of player Villa are now attracting as well is a clear indicator as to where they see themselves in the coming years.
Sacking Dean Smith was a step taken in the right direction and now Steven Gerrard has to prove that he deserves to stay on at the club.
Thus far, his tenure has been underwhelming but he’s gotten the signings that he’s wanted and he’s got to do better with the players at his disposal.
In other Aston Villa news, manager Steven Gerrard is very keen to bring Liverpool defender Joe Gomez to the club.
