Tyrone Mings now expected to start for Aston Villa v Everton – David Ornstein
Steven Gerrard is set to recall Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings to his starting XI for the Premier League showdown against Everton on Saturday afternoon (13 August).
That’s according to The Athletic journalist David Ornstein who shared the early team news ahead of the lunchtime kick-off this afternoon.
Mings was left on the bench in the 2-0 defeat at Bournemouth last weekend, but is now set to replace Ezri Konsa and take back his place alongside Diego Carlos.

Writing on his personal Twitter account ahead of the team news being released, Ornstein shared that one major change is now expected to happen.
“Tyrone Mings expected to start for Aston Villa v Everton,” he wrote.
“After losing captaincy and being unused sub at Bournemouth, 29-year-old centre-back set for recall by Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard to partner Diego Carlos ahead of Ezri Konsa.”
Experience.
The Premier League season certainly didn’t start the way everyone expected it to last time out.
After a positive pre-season in Australia and overall, Bournemouth were seen as the ideal opening day fixture after being recently promoted from the Championship.
It didn’t pan out that way with the 2-0 defeat, but both goals were poor and from crosses in the end, something that Gerrard has now clearly looked at.
Mings won’t bring more physicality than Konsa, but that experience could be vital against Everton, and his ability to command the box and those around him will be needed.
Yes, he no longer has the captaincy which is John McGinn’s role, but he can still lead from the back which is also something that may help Carlos alongside him as he gets used to the Premier League.
No matter who is picked, the ultimate goal is three points and to really kickstart the season – here we go.
