Cameron Archer signs new five-year contract with Aston Villa

Aston Villa youngster Cameron Archer has signed a new five-year deal which will keep him at Villa Park until 2027.

Archer came through the ranks at Villa Park and enjoyed an excellent loan spell at Preston North End in the second half of the 2021/22 campaign.

The 20-year-old looks set to be a part of first-team proceedings at Villa this season after featuring in pre-season and scoring in their 1-0 against Brisbane Roar.

This will come as great news to Villa fans with Archer being one of the brightest young prospects in English football at the moment.

Last season his underlying statistics made for great reading and it’s completely understandable to see why the club were keen to tie him down to a long contract.

As per Wyscout, Archer averaged 0.54 goals per 90 last season which is just over a goal every other game.

His ability to find space in the box and finish low into the corners is an excellent attribute for the youngster to have.

He’s a typical fox in the box and this is displayed by his amount of touches in the opposition box (4.18 per 90).

Furthermore, his 2.55 shots per 90 demonstrate that he is not afraid to take on responsibility himself and test the keeper.

It’s clear that Villa have a serious talent on their hands and it’s crucial that Gerrard gives the young striker chances in the Premier League this season, not just the fleeting cup appearance.

It’s going to be interesting to see how Archer fairs in the upcoming campaign.

In other Aston Villa news, the club are looking to accelerate their midfielder search after Carney Chukwuemeka’s exit.
