Tony Cascarino: Jack Grealish could return to Aston Villa if Manchester City form does not improve

Tony Cascarino has sent a warning to Manchester City’s Jack Grealish that he could be loaned back to Aston Villa if he doesn’t improve his form.

The England international has found it hard to showcase his talent ever since joining the reigning Premier League champions since his mega-money move.

It was then suggested by Cascarino that a loan move may follow next summer, with eight or nine out of 10 performances needed every week at the Etihad.

Cascarino, while speaking on talkSPORT, suggested that time is running out for the 26-year-old and he might well be on his way back to Villa if his performance does not improve in the near future.

“At the end of the season, if he [Grealish] doesn’t pick up his standards, what we know he’s capable of and why they paid £100m for him, he’ll probably be loaned out or he might end up back at Villa,” he said.

“He’s not playing well enough consistently for Man City. I’m not talking about being OK, six out of tens. He should be eight or nine. He’s got so much quality.”

Crucial season

Grealish has been rated highly in the football community in England, largely because of what he has done during his time with Villa where he was termed as one of the most influential players in the Premier League.

However, ever since joining City in a deal worth over £100 million, he has failed to live up to the hype and produced another lacklustre performance in the Community Shield clash against Liverpool on Saturday.

It is clear that Pep Guardiola is a big fan of the 26-year-old but it will be hard for him to keep the players’ chances when there are better options available on the bench.

As far as Villa are concerned, they would love to have their former captain back at the club where he can play alongside an improved squad and under a manager who has the higher ambitions as well.

During his time at Villa Park, Grealish played 213 matches for the club across all competitions where he managed to score 32 times and provided 43 assists.

In other Aston Villa news, manager Steven Gerrard is very keen to bring Liverpool defender Joe Gomez to the club.
