Aston Villa: PSG join Barcelona in Carney Chukwuemeka race – report

Aston Villa are facing the prospect of losing Carney Chukwuemeka this summer as Paris Saint-Germain have now entered the race, according to The Mirror.

Spanish giants Barcelona have already registered their interest but the reigning French champions want a piece of the pie and are willing to take on the Catalans head to head.

Steven Gerrard’s senior side are currently on tour in Australia as they ramp up their pre-season preparations but Chukwuemeka was left in the Midlands with the rest of the youth sides.

His contract runs for another 12 months and he has indicated that he won’t be signing a new deal which has seen an increase in interest and left the teenager with a tough decision to make between two giants of the game.

Chukweumeka made 11 appearances for Aston Villa last season and went on to be one of the stars of England Under-19s European Championship win over the summer.

Big mistake

Anybody who watched England Under-19s run to the European Championship trophy will be able to tell you that Chukwuemeka is an insanely talented player who can win you games single-handedly.

The way he can just glide through the opposition both with and without the ball is something we do not have in any other senior player and yet we are about to throw him away.

If he is adamant about not signing a new deal then we have to ask serious questions internally as to why he wants to leave and what needs to change to stop extreme talents like himself from exiting in the future.

We might as well sell him right now if he won’t change his mind on his future at Aston Villa and try to get some money for him rather than just a compensation fee in a year’s time which will not be anywhere near the same amount of a proper transfer fee.

In other Aston Villa news, Gerrard needs one of his star attackers to find his swagger again after a sub-par 2021-22 campaign.
