Aston Villa announce signing of Rangers striker Rory Wilson

Aston Villa have confirmed the signing of 16-year-old striking sensation Rory Wilson from Scottish Premiership giants Rangers.

The club made the announcement on Twitter as the Scottish youth international put pen to paper on his first professional contract.

Wilson is set to go straight into the Villa Under-18s side for the upcoming 2022-23 campaign after he turned heads across the nation last season, scoring 49 goals for club and country.

“We are delighted that Rory has joined us having had a number of clubs interested in signing him,” Academy Manager Mark Harrison said.

“He is a goalscorer with a lot of potential, having also represented Scotland at international youth level.

“He has a real good thirst and mentality to want to improve and we really look forward to seeing how he develops with us and hopefully, in years to come, play for our first team.”

Future star

Steven Gerrard won’t be planning on throwing Wilson straight into the deep end at any point this season unless he goes and scores similar numbers for us as he did up in Scotland.

But even if he doesn’t go and bang in 40 goals for the Villans’ youth sides, we should still remain very excited about the potential Wilson possesses and what we could see at Villa Park in the Premier League one day.

Danny Ings, in particular, won’t be around for a great deal longer and by the time the 16-year-old has reached a level where he could make his mark on the senior side, Ollie Watkins could well be out of the door too.

With him and Cameron Archer, who is further along in his development at 20 years of age, we could have the makings of an exceptional strike partnership that could be highly successful in the world’s best league.

In other Aston Villa news, Tim Ireogbunam needs to find an extra gear if he wants to make himself a more regular feature in Gerrard’s team next season.
