Alan Hutton reacts as Aston Villa linked with move for Rangers star Alfredo Morelos
We’re delighted to welcome former Scotland defender Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Aston Villa...
Alan Hutton has insisted that Rangers star Alfredo Morelos has proven that he could do it in the Premier League if that move is finished this summer.
The ex-Villa and Rangers defender believes that the Colombian international has shown in Europe that he has what it takes to perform in the Premier League under Steven Gerrard.
Football Scotland has already reported that Gerrard is keen on a reunion with his former talisman at Villa Park as he looks to strengthen in the final third.

“Morelos now is in a situation where to me, it doesn’t look like he’s going to sign a new contract,” he exclusively told Villa News.
“He’s into his final year, there’s a lot of options there. Steven Gerrard knows him inside and out, he knows what he’s capable of, and he knows what he can bring. The only question mark above his head is can he play to that level? I believe he can, I think he’s shown it in Europe.
“It’s just about the consistency, can he do it week in and week out against some of the best defenders in the world? One thing for sure is he’ll definitely cause them problems.
“He is a little bit different to what Villa already have.”

Reunion.
This would be a very smart move.
With Morelos entering the final year of his current contract in Glasgow, Gerrard could swoop in and look to complete a move for a cut-price in the next two months.
Rangers will then have to decide whether or not they want to risk losing him for nothing in the following summer, something that may not be on the cards financially.
Morelos was an animal in the Europa League last season, helping his side knock out Borussia Dortmund among others before missing the semi-final and final.
That is a player who is ready for the next step, and it may not be long until we find out whether or not that will be at Villa Park from 2022 and beyond.
