View: Assist king Otavio will provide creative spark should he move to Aston Villa

Aston Villa have been linked with Porto’s 27-year-old winger Otavio and if the Portuguese star moved to Villa Park he would provide countless chances for Villa’s strikers.

MaisFutebol reported on 22 June that Villa had a bid rejected for the attacker, and Steven Gerrard should potentially revisit a move for the attacker.

Otavio amassed the fifth most assists in the Premier Liga in the 2021/22 season and as per Wyscout, he has the third highest expected assists in the league [7.52].

He is a winger that likes to pick up positions centrally and in the penalty box with the 27-year-old in the top 20 for touches in the opponent’s box per 90 [3.36].

Where Otavio comes into his own is his ability to play key passes forward in order to cut open defences.

The winger played 110 through balls in the 2021/22 season, which is nearly twice as many as the second-placed player.

He is not afraid to make try to make things happen in order to cut open a defence.

The 27-year-old also ranks top for the most key passes and smart passes played in the league.

Gerrard should consider another bid for the attacker.

Otavio and Philippe Coutinho in the same side would be ideal for the likes of Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings to thrive upon in the 2022/23 season.

It would certainly be a statement of intent from the club hierarchy to secure a deal for the attacker.

Considering Villa’s early business, it’s certainly not out of the question.

In other Aston Villa news, we have to do whatever we can to sign Porto midfielder Otavio.
