Alan Hutton: Aston Villa can only sell Douglas Luiz if they have new signings lined up
We’re delighted to welcome former Scotland defender Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Aston Villa...
Alan Hutton has insisted that Aston Villa can only sanction the exit of Douglas Luiz if they bring in a new midfield signing of their own this summer.
The ex-Villa defender admitted that Steven Gerrard will likely wave goodbye to other midfield options such as Morgan Sanson, with options potentially left limited.
Boubacar Kamara has already arrived after his deal at Marseille ran down, but strong reports have linked Luiz with the exit door before the September deadline.

“I think they will only let him go if they know they can bring someone in,” he exclusively told Villa News.
“There are boys like Sanson there who will probably move on too, if Douglas Luiz moves on, you’re starting to look a little bit light. He [Gerrard] will still want to add and not take away and Luiz is someone who played a lot last season, he did that defensive job really well.
“If Steven Gerrard does have his eye on the likes of Conor Gallagher, then that could free up the space to allow the likes of Luiz to go.”

Think about it.
There has been heavy talk regarding AC Milan being in for the Brazilian.
Fabrizio Romano shut those rumours down recently, reporting that there had been no contact between the Italian club and the agents of Luiz as speculation continues to swirl.
Right now, Villa are in the best financial shape they have been in for years, with the sale of Jack Grealish kickstarting a very fruitful period for the owners, who in fairness, have pumped that back into the squad.
Even if Luiz was to be sold before anyone else was brought in, that would be rectified quickly, but there are always plans in place at Villa Park, and that won’t be allowed to happen.
Gerrard will be analysing his squad very closely with pre-season set to begin, and there are no doubts that there will be many changes yet to come in this window.
This is one to keep an eye on.
