Liverpool unlikely to sanction sale of Aston Villa target Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – report

Liverpool will reportedly not be selling attacking midfielder and Aston Villa target Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer.

According to Goal, even though he is in the final year of his contract, the Reds do not have any plans on cashing in on his services.

Barring Villa, the likes of Newcastle and West Ham have also been credited with an interest in the 28-year-old.

Bullet dodged

Oxlade-Chamberlain has always been a player with bags of talent but one who’s never really lived up to it.

This could be down to injuries or his basic attitude which has stopped him from getting to that next level.

Even at Liverpool, he’s looked like a world beater on some days, but mostly he just seems to be a player lacking that confidence to be a match winner.

Links to him are understandable given the fact that Gerrard is an ex Liverpool man and would be open to reuniting with players from Anfield.

That said, a midfielder is not what they need at the moment so it may be best for him to stay at Liverpool and decide his future when he’s released next summer.

Villa must put all their funds to sign more defenders and probably a wide forward as that’s their Achilles heel going into the new season.

In other Aston Villa news, manager Steven Gerrard is very keen to bring Liverpool defender Joe Gomez to the club.
