Aston Villa and Everton in battle to sign Anderlecht defender Sergio Gomez – report
Aston Villa and Everton are reportedly in a battle to sign Anderlecht defender Sergio Gomez this summer.
According to Het Laatste Nieuws, the English duo’s interest in the 21-year-old appears to be increasing.
There were concerns over the Spaniard’s fitness, but he chose not to have surgery for his pubalgia and a summer move may now be likely.

Not needed
After signing Lucas Digne, the Villans do not need another left-back this summer, especially one who would want regular first-team minutes.
If he’s content to be a backup and play the odd league games and start in the cups, then Steven Gerrard would welcome him with open arms.
However, he’s on a rise and is unlikely to settle for a bench role at a club that’s not even competing for European football.
A move to Everton also seems highly unlikely as they’re worse off than Villa and do not have the funds like the Birmingham-based outfit.
The club must look to sign a wide forward and possibly another centre-back as those are two positions they desperately need to strengthen.
The billionaire owners are willing to back Gerrard but they cannot sit throwing cash at every player the hierarchy wants as that will only lead to FFP issues.
The club have got to be vigilant and continue what they’ve done so far in this window, which is pretty much sign players to strengthen the first team.
In other Aston Villa news, manager Steven Gerrard is very keen to bring Liverpool defender Joe Gomez to the club.
