Roma interested in Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz

Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz is on Jose Mourinho’s radar for a move to Roma in the summer transfer window, according to a report by the Express & Star.

The Brazil international was a stalwart in the Lions’ side in the 2021/22 Premier League campaign, featuring 34 times whilst being involved in five goals along the way.

Having signed a four-year deal in 2019, the former Manchester City man is coming into the last 12 months of his Villa Park contract.

Luiz will face an increasing battle for a place in Steven Gerrard’s team next season after the arrival of Boubacar Kamara from Marseille.

Despite just having signed former Manchester United and Chelsea ace Nemanja Matic, the Serie A side remains interested in the Villans maestro.

Villa are said to be considering offers for the Brazilian at the risk of losing him next summer for free at the end of his contract.

Make way.

This seems to be a no-brainer for Aston Villa but they desperately need to be careful. The easy thing to do would be to sell Luiz and recoup some of the vast money that has been splashed on several players in the transfer window.

Kamara, Diego Carlos and Philippe Coutinho were by no means cheap and getting some money back into the bank would be sensible but what impact could it have on the team?

It is quite a bold move to replace one of the most important players in the squad with Kamara – a kid who is completely untested in England or the Premier League.

With that being said, if Gerrard is under the impression that he doesn’t need Luiz next season then he should be sold straight away.

There isn’t room in the squad anymore for passengers – especially those on big money.

It would be stupid to let him go for free at the end of his deal also considering his £15million transfer fee.
