Aston Villa agree deal for Robin Olsen, will be announced soon – Fabrizio Romano

Aston Villa have reached an agreement to sign AS Roma goalkeeper Robin Olsen on a permanent deal, according to Fabrizio Romano on Friday [03 June].

The journalist has reported that the announcement is now set and the deal with go through for just below £3million for the Swedish international.

Steven Gerrard has moved quickly to secure Olsen as competition for Emi Martinez after his loan spell at Villa Park in the 2021-22 season in the Premier League.

Writing on his personal Twitter account on Friday evening [03 June], Romano shared yet another deal set to be completed for the Villans at the start of this window.

“Robin Olsen will join Aston Villa on a permanent deal, agreement done and set to be announced.”

“AS Roma will receive €3.5m [£2.99m] for the Swedish goalkeeper.”

Smart.

Aston Villa do not need to break the bank to bring in another goalkeeper, with their options certainly covered.

Martinez has been one of the best stoppers in the Premier League since his arrival at Villa Park, and all he has been missing is serious competition.

Olsen stepped in on the final day of the 2021-22 season away at Manchester City and was solid enough, proving that our options at the back are no longer as reliant on the South American.

Gerrard will love the blockbuster signings of Boubacar Kamara and Diego Carlos, but small deals that can go under the radar such as Olsen can be equally as important.

This is one that should go through without any issue and at a very cheap price.

Going for Europe can cost hundreds of millions, but depth can sometimes be as important as the quality, especially when the games start coming thick and fast.

This is a great move.
